About Us
Thank you for your interest in the Potrero Hill Association of Merchants and Businesses (PHAB). We have been around in one form or another for over twenty years, working together to improve the climate for small business on Potrero Hill. We have tried to publicize our merchant community to the residents of the Hill as well as make our community known to the rest of the City.
Our Mission
The purpose of our association is to maintain and improve the feel of the Potrero Hill neighborhood as community with a cultural mixture of residents and businesses, to promote and improve the convenience of shopping on Potrero Hill, and to have an effective voice in government on matters pertaining to Potrero Hill businesses.

A Rich Multi-Cultural History
The Irish and Scotch immigrants were some of the first that came to Potrero Hill in the 1860s and 1870s. The Russians moved into Potrero Hill in the early 1900s and settled in the western portion of the hill, also known as “Russian Hill” or “Little Russia.” A Latino community moved to the hill in the 1930s, many of which became workers for Southern Pacific Railroad. |
