I was born in Switzerland, have lived, worked and
studied in England and Italy, and after extensive traveling throughout
Europe moved to the United States. From early childhood I was always
curious about the different crafts, and wanted to learn them all.
I have lived in New York City for the last 15 years and worked
mainly for a ceramist, while studying painting and taking various
classes on the side. My fascination with jewelry began by seeing
all the different imports of beads and ethnic jewelry that people
where selling in the streets. This world was the way of discovery,
from materials, techniques and of all ethnic and modern values.
Through that I learned that its function is not only to carry jewels
and commodity into the future. I now see it as a dialog with the
environment I live in and live with. I see it as an object that’s
alive and gives place to pleasure and communication. Keeping that
in mind, the photo series developed.
I also wanted to make pieces that last a life time, using materials
that come from this earth. Little by little the porcelain pieces
developed. Each piece is cast, hand painted, fired and truly one
of a kind. Color has continued to fascinate me and the learning
seems never ending.
I hope that you will enjoy my discoveries, as much as I liked making
them for the last 10 years. |
