I discovered early in life that transforming shapeless bits
of metal into tiny p8ieces of art would be my life’s passion. At
the age of twelve, I was the youngest person in a class designed
for and filled with adults looking for fun and relaxation. Utterly
captivated, I immersed myself in the class and put endless hours
into practicing new techniques.
From the first effort of copper and colored stone, I worked
hard to quickly hone my skills. I began working with silver
in high school and small amounts of gold as the budget allowed. Today,
my husband Tom and I work almost exclusively with high –karat
gold. With my innate sense of color and natural affinity
for sake and symmetry, and his gift for mathematics and the mechanics
of movement, we constantly create new designs that harmoniously
combine our personal attributes.
I am particularly inspired by the brilliant color of new and
unusual gemstones such as salmonite, prehnite and apatite. I
create bright, signature jewelry with a unique style – pieces
that are un-traditional, but flexible, durable and supremely
wearable. I use techniques such as repousse, granulation
and wire wrapping, blending the new skills with those handed
down from smiths who centuries ago crafted armor and weaponry.
My designs emphasize the colors of the stones with discreet wire
wrapping techniques I have developed over my many years of experience. In
this way my handcrafted designs discourage casual reproduction
and maintain their distinctiveness as long as possible.
